The latest idiocy from Colin Kaepernick

ITEM #1: This past week gave us yet another disgusting Colin Kaepernick special, this one coming in response to the U.S. airstrike that killed Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani.

Soleimani was a monster with an unthinkable amount of blood on his hands — a terror master for a brutal, thuggish, dangerous and anti-Semitic regime.

Naturally, Kaepernick, the failed former NFL quarterback turned “social justice” activist, had this to offer in the way of commentary on the news of Soleimani’s killing:

“There is nothing new about American terrorist attacks against Black and Brown people for the expansion of American imperialism.”

It’s only the latest example of Kaepernick’s particularly repugnant brand of social justice, one steeped in anti-American and anti-military sentiment.

Kaepernick needs to be recognized for what he is — an ignorant, spoiled brat. This great country gave him the opportunity to become rich and successful, which provided him with an outsized platform to express his views. And he uses that platform to spread radical and hateful lies about the country that has afforded him those opportunities and continues to protect his freedoms.

And he spits on those of us who have served our nation in the process.

As abhorrent as it is, it’s also clarifying. At least the far left is letting us know who they truly are.

ITEM #2: During periods of economic growth, there’s a tendency to take our prosperity for granted — to forget that job creation, rising wages, and increased opportunities don’t just happen.

In reality, it takes a lot of different ingredients to produce economic success, but among the most important is an approach to public policy that creates and maintains an environment in which both businesses and workers can flourish.

The economic boom we’re seeing under President Trump — which is in stark contrast with the stagnation we got for eight years during the Obama administration — has served to reinforce this truth.

Andy Matthews, former President of the Nevada Policy Research Institute, has written an op-ed that takes a close look at our ongoing economic success story, and the enormously positive impact it has had for Nevada. He writes:

“Despite the ongoing Democrat campaign to spread pessimism about our prosperous future, the Silver State continues to thrive under Donald Trump. …

“[T]he state economy has added more than 30,000 new jobs over the past 12 months — a wave of job creation that has been largely fueled by President Trump’s campaign to eliminate job-killing federal regulations and cut taxes for the middle class. …

“Considering the flurry of economic milestones that our state has achieved in recent years, the ongoing expansion is nothing short of remarkable.”

Of course, this prosperity will continue only so long as we keep getting the policies right. And as Matthews notes, there’s real danger ahead if the far-left ideologues calling the shots in today’s Democrat Party — both nationally and here in Nevada — get their way.

Check out the full op-ed here.

ITEM #3:President Donald Trump sure knows how to troll on Twitter. This from Monday:

“The homeless situation in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and many other Democrat Party run cities throughout the Nation is a state and local problem, not a federal problem.

“If however, the city or state in question is willing to acknowledge responsibility, and politely asks for help from the Federal Government, we will very seriously consider getting involved in order to make those poorly run Democrat Cities Great Again!”

Gotta love the guy! He’s so generous and compassionate.

ITEM #4: The Associated Press reports that Atlanta Police Chief Ericka Shields “has ordered a halt to all police car chases,” saying, “I don’t want to see us cost someone their life in pursuit of an auto theft person or burglar.”

“She said she would rather err on the side of safety, even though her decision may increase crime.”

And here we thought the job of the police department was to DETER crime. What were we thinking?

ITEM #5:According to the latest from the outraged left, there’s a new scourge infesting low-income neighborhoods: discount “dollar” stores.

No, you read that right.

According to a report in City Journal this week, cities around the country are passing new laws and zoning regulations to ban retail stores such as Dollar Tree and Dollar General. The argument is that discount stores keep major grocery chains from setting up shop and “sustain poverty by making neighborhoods seem run-down.”

“Forcing the Poor to Pay More.” Great bumper sticker for big-city Democrat candidates this year.

ITEM #6:Forget homelessness, crime and drug abuse. California regulators now have their sights on a much more dire problem. The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting on a plan to ban gas-powered leaf blowers and lawn mowers.

“What I think we need to realize is that we have to do something different for climate change in the world,” said Novato Mayor Pro Tem Pat Eklund. “If not, we are going to see a different world than we do today. Every little bit is going to help.”

We assume that means she walks or bikes to work, right? Right?

ITEM #7:At the beginning of the year, a teacher at Brody Middle School in Des Moines, Iowa, told her students they could earn a “pizza party” before the Christmas break if they met certain requirements. They did. And she ordered the pizzas … paid for out of her own pocket.

But then the principal walked into the classroom and confiscated the pizzas, saying he never approved the party. His excuse was that he wanted to be “fair” and didn’t want other kids to be left out.

“He took the pizzas from the kids and let them sit in the office for the teacher to pick up after school,” reported one angry parent on Facebook, adding that “the teacher was left in tears.”

After being slammed as a “Grinch” on social media, the principal eventually apologized for being “overly strict.” Ya think?

ITEM #8:U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez last week temporarily blocked a new California law that would force all truck drivers to work as employees rather than as self-employed independent contractors.

It’s an important and welcome development, and one that has relevance here in Nevada given the importance of the trucking industry in the Silver State. And it’s definitely something to keep an eye on as the legal battle continues to play out.

NOTABLE QUOTES
“So if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.” – Ricky Gervais, in his blistering opening monologue at this week’s Golden Globe awards

“Trusting Adam Schiff to accurately describe documents you have not yet seen is like using a porcupine as an anal thermometer; it’s a huge pain in the ***, and you should have known better.” – Scott Adams
