Greetings sports fans and welcome to a long-overdue edition of Vegas Valley Sports Beat, that spicy little meatball of a column that doesn’t know when to quit so it just wanders off whenever the mood strikes. Much like Joe Biden but without all the treason.
What an incredibly beautiful day it was in the verdant Vegas Valley region today. The temperature was at record high levels for the 5th day of Novembrrr but that shouldn’t be much more of a problem for the rest of the year now. With any luck we’ll see a little rain in the next day or two because after 200 days without rain the pastures that our wild Mustang herds graze on through the winter are going to be very sparse indeed.
As a long-time musician and music lover the best thing that can happen is to wander into a tiny hole-in-the-wall jazz cafe that’s tucked away in the most unlikely of all places possible, and discover as it were a rare musical gem is playing there. Such was the case for me earlier this evening when I was lucky enough to be looking over a dating website called TWOO and I happened upon a global show featuring the singing debut of a wonderful young vocalist named Thata`.
I caught the tail-end of the show but the audience was treated to several songs including a Brazilian love ballad that set my Spanish blood to percolating. Okay not really but it was very beautiful nonetheless and it did give me some chills it was that pretty.
I think we can agree that there are more shallow musical artists than you can shake a stick at on TWOO, or on the big stage but That`a is very warm and genuine. I tried to check out some girl band and they were nothing but rude so I split. If they never succeed I will not wonder why.
Some dumbass in the band, or hanger on, wannabe section of it told me to buy them an electronic trinket and they’d play. Like that’ll ever happen. Pass me by with all of that noise. They were slovenly and stupid rude fools who blew a chance to get their music out in front of a larger audience. Too bad for them.
A sharp contrast to Thata,`who, in spite of being a bit nervous, performed more like a seasoned professional than a newcomer to the world musical stage. Her hair was beautifully coifed, and she wore a very smart outfit that complimented her jet-black ponytail, and her earrings were stunning.
But for me what stood out in a world chock-full of good singer’s was how she comported herself with her fans. Those are the people that buy the new music downloads, tickets and CDs. Failing to take care of them can have consequences on payday, but taking that much time and effort to reach out to her audience is what set her apart from a bunch of wannbe’s. I very seriously doubt Thata` will have that problem.
I cannot even guess where, or when you might see , Thata` performing live in your town in the future but I am willing to bet good money that she will be in your hearts, minds, and living room, and making her way to the top of the charts in record time. Good luck, Thata
`.
Break a leg.
