Greetings sports fans of all flavors, and children of all ages. Welcome back my friends to the column that never ends, Vegas Valley Sports Beat. That daring little darling of Ethical Internet Sports Journalism you either love to hate or hate to love. Either way, there is no denying it. You can’t put it down. Okay, so maybe you can put it down if you put your mind to it, but hopefully, we’ll be able to grab your attention and hold onto it for a few minutes more.
Just long enough for me to tell you the wonderful news, and for you to get all excited about it. And awayyyyyy we go.
Yes, my dear friends, you did read the headlines right. Yes, Pahrump, Nevada that shining little ghost town that refuses to give up the ghost and dissolve quietly into the desert sands like every other boomtown that came before it, is going to be building a harness racing facility right here in the very unlikely town of Pahrump. My jaw is still on the floor where it fell when I read the news myself.
Just to get a harness racing track would be awesome, but this is reportedly going to be a mega-project that may include a waterpark, stables, theater, and of course the centerpiece a new resort casino. As if that isn’t reason enough to say holy cow, it is going to be built very close to home for me.
This project, be it a mega-project or not is going to mean a great deal to the people that live n the area as it brings in new construction jobs and revenues, and then once it opens to the public the facility will provide many more people with gainful employment in the form of management, general staffing, and supporting role type jobs.
That is incredible news to me, as I’m sure it must be incredible news to many other people in Pahrump and Nye County. This is indeed a most welcome shot in the arm for our local economy. I personally love harness racing and having a water park as well as a new casino to give the local monopoly a run for their money is like pennies from Heaven only better.
The resort casino would be 40,000 square feet and it will be focused around the racetrack which will cover 7/8ths of a mile and stables that will hold as many as 280 racehorses at a time. The planners speculate that there would eventually be restaurants, shops, batting cages, a theater, a waterpark, and a campground that will have room for up to 2,500 vehicles and as many as 200 RVs at a time.
Tim Bohannon, the president of the Nevada Standardbred Association Inc., was the one that pitched the project to Nye County Commissioners last week. “It’s forward-looking and may be subject to change.” He told the Pahrump Valley Times. The Nevada Standardbred Association was founded several years ago by a group of locals who have an interest in bringing the thrill of harness racing to Nevada and base it here in Pahrump.
Nevada offers nearly every type of legal gambling you can name, but horse racing is scarcely found in the state, and there are no major facilities such as the one proposed by Tim Bohannon’s group. As of now, there is no set price tag for the project, but Bohannon says the Western Saddlebred Association is going to raise a large portion of that funding on their own initiative as Nye county commissioners reacted favorably to the initial pitch and it was eagerly cosigned by Commissioner Leo Blundo, and Bruce Jabbour, while Commissioner Debra Strickland told developers last week that she was sure they will… “find support from within our commissioners.”
“This is very exciting, I’m in favor of it. Commissioner Jabbour reportedly told reporters.
The proposed racing season will run from the end of October through the end of May if it gets conditional approval from the Nevada Racing Commission. There would be two race days every week and each day will feature 12 live harness races throughout the season, and the races could be simulcast across the globe from Pahrump, Nevada. This would effectively bring neighbors closer to us all from all over the world and I can only see this as a very good thing for all of Nye County and Nevada as a whole. I would love to work at this track with the horses or in maintenance perhaps, but if I do nothing else I hope to infect some of you with enthusiasm and moral support for this project.
I have no stake in this whatsoever, my interest is for the sake of the people of Nye County, Nevada, and the USA in that order and equally even if it might mean more flies during the Summer months. It’s not like all the raw trash piled up in the town dump causes any fewer flies. Given also that BLM can round up 1000 wild horses from our backyard every 2-3 years tells me that any argument spoken in that vein would be a load of road apples. The difference between how much manure a wild horse excretes compared to a racehorse is like comparing light to dark. Wild horses drop some huge piles.
To that end, the developers are forward-thinking in their approach to the issues of water conservation, reclamation, and flies. A high-tech reclamation process will be designed for that purpose. Meanwhile, a manure processing facility will help deter a lot of the flies. They say that it will tend to make the project more sustainable for the future.
There’s no question that raw fertilizer is going to come in handy in the coming days, but this is the perfect time for a project like this for Pahrump and I hope the Commissioners will agree as one. Our economy is based upon the confidence of the American consumer and confidence remains high in spite of the destructive economic disaster called the DNC.
But I digress. Feel free to prove me wrong anyway. Meanwhile, back to business.
The new multi-use facility would also have an education and training center that could be utilized for activities held by the FFA (Future Farmers of America) 4H groups, and it could play host to other community-driven events such as weddings, graduations, and the like. Just as Jeff Zidek, a consultant associated with the project said, “There is a major opportunity here. The western part of the country has very few tracks.” Indeed so. It’s about the community.” he added
No doubt about that in my mind. The project’s plans call for no fewer than 96 dormitories to be built on-site to house the workers. The developers say the Pahrump Valley Equine Performance Center of Excellence is going to draw thousands of visitors to Pahrump’s new hotels, restaurants nightlife, and shopping choices and Nye County can expect to see some fresh new revenue from the $39,000,000,000 industry that employs approximately 1,.4 million people in countless full-time jobs.
The main concerns of everyone involved in this historic project are many, but the group has taken a lot of comprehensive, and innovative new approaches to those concerns, and by George, I think they’ve got it!
And welcome back to yet another grilling edition of Vegas Valley Sports Beat that quirky little sports column preferred by four out of five sports fans who chew sugarless gum. Exactly what that has to do with the price of tea in China the world may never know.
But I digress.
The thermometer on the barn wall says oh my God it’s hot in here, and I do believe it’s right. It is hot, but as any seasoned Las Vegas resident knows, it’s not even nearly as hot as it will be soon enough. The 4th of July is just 2 days away and it will really be hot by then. Fortunately most of us are used to the heat and we are able to thrive in it. Or are at least able to stand it even for long periods of time. Please remember to drink lots of water and stay hydrated. You can very quickly become dehydrated and lose consciousness and die. Before you even know that you’re in trouble it’s already too late, and you may never wake up again. I don’t know about you but that’s something I can definitely live without.
I think we can all agree that it’s really great to have Nevada back open for business again. We here at Vegas Valley News would ask you all to get out even if just a little bit and help support your local businesses during these trying times if you can. I’m still somewhat haunted by the images in my mind of riding my bike once down the Strip when it was bustling with people and alive one night, and the next time riding down the main street of a ghost town all by myself. Eerie doesn’t even begin to describe it with the Strip all torn up, barricades all down the street from Charleston all the way down to Flaming-O. There was a police car at every light with their lights flashing non-stop and not a soul to be seen anywhere the whole length of the Strip that I saw.
My last visit to an eating establishment (Timbers – Stephanie) for sustenance and a subsequent review was an unmitigated disaster. For Timbers that is, not for this kid. Incredibly their manager sent me an email saying they dropped the ball and offered me two $25 gift cards. They dropped both balls as far as I’m concerned. I told her I don’t give out my address to hateful people like them and that I tried to eat there once I have since lost my appetite and to give the cards to the SPCA. Hopefully not in my name, though I failed to say so specifically. I’m sure they have enough animus left over from before to take credit for the donation anyway. They have yet to reply.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. They were rude and openly dismissive the first time so I’m supposed to walk back in there after HR reams them out and cash in my gift cards like they won’t know who I am and take a shit in my food? Who wants to be the first person in history to say out loud, or put it in writing and sign an affidavit saying that such is not the mentality of any vindictive food service worker that had a messed up attitude toward the customer to begin with? They do it in prisons, and jails especially just for spite in many cases, and they do it at all public eateries as well.
She’s lost her mind if she thinks $50 worth of their food is even worth the effort to go back there to get considering I live 75 miles away. The way I see it, there’s nothing to be learned from being kicked by a mule a second time. No thank you Timbers, I honestly do not care for forced hospitality.
Which brings us to the subject. I was once again in town on an inspection assignment this past week when I happened to find myself in front of a wonderful little establishment called Village Pub and Poker. Located at 10420 Bermuda road this location is but one of a dozen similar locations scattered in and about the greater Las Vegas Valley area.
From the moment I walked in off the street where it was at least 107 degrees it was cool, and inviting inside, and I was greeted warmly by Florida the bartender. Unlike some places, TImbers, that I could name I did not have to sit there for an hour humiliated waiting for her to deign to serve me, she was on the spot and smoking hot if I may say so. Jaw-dropper yes, ball dropper. Most definitely not. She was on the ball as far as service goes. She was funny, very warm, and quite genuine in my opinion. All the good food and atmosphere in the world won’t undo the damage one rude waiter can do to a restaurant.
I was immediately drawn to the 10 ounce Sirloin steak dinner special for $11.99 and ordered that with salad, crispy seasoned steak fries, and mixed garden vegetables with a cola back, no ice. I did not have to wait all day to order nor for my food. It was brought to me hot, and delicious in no time flat. Every condiment one could ever ask for was right there at my fingertips from salt, to A-1 Steak Sauce.
This column, this news agency, Vegas Valley News is dedicated to whatever is good for Las Vegas and those who live, work, and or play here. So this column is not about me. When I do a review it’s 100% voluntary. I don’t get paid to write the review nor do I get reimbursed a cent for the meal. So when I go into an establishment whether it’s to review it or not it is ALL about ME, Not them, ME. It’s all about fulfilling my immediate needs immediately. I found just such instant gratification at Village Pub and Poker. Service with such a lovely smile as Florida’s is always a welcome respite from the plastic Stepford staff as I encountered at Timbers.
I related to her, and to nearby patrons within earshot at the bar my experience at Timbers and they all agreed that Timbers sucks. I paraphrase a bit, but that’s the gist of it. Compared to Village Pub and Poker they suck rotten eggs.
(702) 407-0219 is the number to the location I went to on Bermuda, but you can easily obtain the locations of the other 11 pubs at villagepubvegas.com Village Pub and Poker is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week for your dining pleasure, or if you’re in the mood to try your luck at Gambler’s Bonus poker on the bar. I took advantage of my visit to sign up with their Gambler’s Bonus players reward program that I have been hearing so much about on the radio for years but never had the opportunity to sign up for in the past.
With a small, but broad menu filled with culinary taste treats, even root beer floats, Village Pub and Poker serves so many good items that there simply has to be something on there that you’re sure to find delectable enough to fully satisfy your breakfast, lunch or dinner cravings every time.
I wrote a five-star review for them on YELP as I promised Florida I would, and now I reiterate that same review grade here and give them 5 of 5 stars in review. This grade is more than justified due to the fact that overall it was a great, time, a great meal at a great price, and it was a very refreshing change from the pointed hatred I received from Timbers.
Thank you so much to Florida and to Village Pub and Poker for everything. May you live long and prosper much.

A devastating letter written by Arizona Senate President Karen Fann on voting irregularities, and probably fraud, in Maricopa County during the 2020 Presidential Election. Even the database was illegally deleted after the subpoena to produce the information. Senate President Fann has invited Maricopa County officials to a public hearing on May 18 to allow them the opportunity to try to explain what happened to the missing databases, ballots, and other significant issues. The Fake News and Lamestream Media is doing everything they can not to cover this major story. They just refuse to talk or report about it. They don’t want the United States or World to see what is going on with our corrupt, third world election. Read the full letter here.![]() |

Can’t imagine Republican House Members would go with Chip Roy—he has not done a great job, and will probably be successfully primaried in his own district. I support Elise, by far, over Chip! |

A guy named Miles Taylor, who I have no idea who he is, don’t remember ever meeting him or having a conversation with, gets more publicity pretending he was in the inner circle of our Administration when he was definitely not. Some people refer to him as “absolutely nothing.” I hear he is on CNN and MSDNC all the time, but he had nothing to do with any of my decisions, and I wouldn’t even know what he looks like. He is the guy who fraudulently wrote a make-believe book and statement to the failing New York Times calling himself “Anonymous.” That’s right, he, a lowlife that I didn’t know, was Anonymous. Now he’s putting together a group of RINOs and Losers who are coming out to protest President Trump despite our creating the greatest economy ever, getting us out of endless wars, rebuilding our Great Military, reducing taxes and regulations by historic levels, creating Space Force, appointing almost 300 Judges, and much, much more! He is a phony who will probably be sued over his fake book and fake “Anonymous” editorial, which caused so much treasonous stir. Miles Taylor and his fellow RINO losers like Tom Ridge, Christine Todd Whitman, and Crazy Barbara Comstock voted for Biden, and now look what they have—a socialist regime with collapsing borders, massive tax and regulation hikes, unrest in the Middle East, and long gas lines. He is even giving us men setting new records playing women’s sports. What a disaster for our Country it has been! |
